Since early 2003, Satoru Ueda has been engaged in projects to promote and use Linux widely in consumer electronics appliances and IoT devices. Ueda was one of the founders of the CE Linux forum, which was established to enhance the collaborative relationship between the OSS community and commercial embedded system developers. From 2012 to 2017, he participated in the Keio university Leading Graduate School program as a Project Professor (in charge of education) considering the value of open communities for innovation. Ueda’s efforts to harmonize the OSS community and Consumer Electronics companies is based upon his past experience with product planning and marketing for UNIX workstation products and his research of the ecology of the independent film making community.

He has been on the board of directors of the OpenChain project since September 2017.

He is the author of a book recently published in Japan: “OSS License Textbook (Japanese)” (ISBN 978-4-297-10035-3).
